Digital Platforms, Massification and Individualisation of Inequalities in Higher Education

Malish C. M., Assistant Professor, Ashank Desai Centre for Policy Studies, IIT Bombay discussed how the platformisation of digital platforms (in education) is exacerbating three tensions in higher education:

  • individualism versus community
  • independence versus interdependence
  • structure versus flexibility

and legitimising “individualisation of inequalities”.

He also discussed the larger implications of the platformisation of education on the democratisation of higher education and the need to develop a critical perspective on the adoption of education technology.
